Connaissances, attitudes et pratiques des femmes enceintes sur leur santé bucco-dentaire et celle leur enfant à naître : étude transversale à la maternité du CHU de Bordeaux

Abstract : The physiological changes that occur during pregnancy make pregnant women more susceptible to oral diseases. Moreover, the child's oral health requires attention from the first months of life. The objective was to describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices of pregnant women about their oral health and that of their unborn child. A cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out at the Bordeaux University Hospital maternity unit with 117 pregnant women. Of the participants, 78.6% reported brushing at least twice a day, but only 9.2% flossed regularly. Only 23.9% had a preventive dental check-up during pregnancy. They knew that pregnancy impacted oral health but knew little about its effects. Basic knowledge about the child's oral health was generally good and was not associated with the use or not of the preventive dental check-up. The oral health knowledge of pregnant women could be improved but the use of the preventive dental check-up is low.
