La recherche qualitative en psychiatrie : l’expérience vécue des chercheurs-psychiatres

Abstract : The aim of this study was to explore the experience of psychiatrists conducting qualitative studies. Seven psychiatrists-researchers were interviewed using a semi-directive interview. Data were analyzed within a phenomenological thematic approach. Three themes emerged from the analysis: 1) how the participants discovered and got access to qualitative methods 2) their experience of qualitative method 3) how and why they felt that psychiatry was a field that could be naturally explored by qualitative methods. This study allowed us to show a lack of use and knowledge of these methods among medical students and physicians. The results show how useful and relevant qualitative research can be in the field of mental health, for the improvement of the quality of the field itself, for the patients but also for the psychiatrists conducting these research in their clinical practice.
