Place de l'anesthésie générale dans la prise en charge bucco-dentaire de l'enfant

Abstract : General anesthesia in pediatric dentistry is part of the therapeutic range under well-defined conditions. It allows all therapeutic procedures to be carried out in a single session, thus contributing to the reintegration of the child into the normal circuit of care in the dental office. It remains an ultimate solution, of last resort, for the cost of oral care for children, outside the context of a vital emergency, which requires reflection. The first part is a presentation of general anesthesia in pediatric dentistry: definition, necessary equipment, type of oral treatment. The second part consists in identifying the indications, the contraindications the advantages, the disadvantages as well as the risk benefit report. The third part is devoted to the operating procedure, the follow-up of the patient and the forensic aspect. Finally, in the fourth part, we will describe a statistical study based on 90 children to be operated on at the North Hospital of the Public Assistance of Hospitals of Marseille (APHM) which highlights the poor oral condition of our sample.
