Impact d'une crise sanitaire telle que celle de la COVID-19 sur les opinions quant à la vaccination en général : enquête dans le Calvados auprès de patients consultant en médecine générale

Abstract : Introduction: Since December 2019, the world has been facing a pandemic caused by an emerging coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. A survey carried out at the end of March 2020 indicates that 26% of french population would refuse the vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. These results are not surprising as 1 person out of 3 does not believe vaccines are safe, making France the most skeptical country about vaccination in the world. Despite increased vaccination coverage in children since the extension of vaccination obligations, reluctance to vaccination is still very present. The aim of this study is to assess whether a health crisis has an impact on opinions about vaccination in general. Methods: We carried out a descriptive quantitative study among the population consulting general medicine in Calvados. Questionnaires were placed in waiting rooms of 11 general medical practices. Results: A health crisis such as COVID-19 does not significantly change opinions about vaccination in general. Results showed that a small proportion of people (12%) changed their minds negatively and that the same percentage changed theirs positively. Moreover, more than 1 out of 5 person were and remained hesitating. This can be explained by the lack of information about vaccination (42% of asked people thought so). Conclusion: The creation of a consultation dedicated to vaccinations in order to sensitize the population on the benefits and the importance of vaccination could surely improve vaccination adhesion.
