Pertinence d’un support vidéo à la maternité pour accompagner les mères au démarrage de leur allaitement

Abstract : Objective: evaluate the relevance of a video “Salon TT” activity to help initiate the breastfeeding in a maternity unit service.
Material and method: single-center prospective study was carried out at the Maternity unit of the Woman-Mother-Child pole of Nice University Hospital Archet II Center between April 1, 2019 and February 29, 2020. Two hundred questionnaires from a group that participated in the activity and the other did not were compared.
Results: the mothers who participated in the activity have a much better theoretical knowledge of the essential keys to successfully start breastfeeding. In addition, the pain during breastfeeding is significantly reduced when the mothers were able to benefit from the activity. Breastfeeding initiation is thus favored.
Conclusions: thanks to the video film showing the approach of the newborn to the breast during the activity, mothers assimilate much better the reflexes required during the first breastfeeding. Pain mainly due to poor latching by the child to the breast is thus reduced. This educational support also serves as homogeneous framework for professionals to successfully start breastfeeding together.
