L'expérience des tuteurs étudiants sages-femmes : étude menée au sein d'un tutorat PACES de la région AuRA

Abstract : Background: Since 1998, peer tutoring has been included during the first cycle of health studies. This system involves many midwifery student tutors who take care of a group of first-year students, accompany and support them. These tutors have no specific teaching qualifications. It is therefore interesting to wonder what the student midwifery tutors have learned from this experience. Objectives: Determine the positive aspects of the tutor role and the difficulties in peer tutoring. Method: This qualitative study was carried out in 2019, from semi-directed individual interviews, among a PACES peer tutoring from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Results and discussion: This study confirmed that tutoring is a very beneficial educational method, on several levels, for the student midwife tutorand that it is growing from this enriching experience. However, the tutoring exercise is not as simple and difficulties may arise during the sessions. Conclusion: This teaching method deserves to be offered to all midwifery schools in view of the benefits that this system can bring in the clinical and practical training of midwifery students.
