Abstract : Background: learning disabilities in written language entails 15-20% of children. Approximately 5-7% of children are dyslexic. The majority of children are followed by a General Practitioner after the age of 2. Early identification and detection of written language disabilities are essential to begin appropriate teatment as early as possible. How much time would general practitioners from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques who think they can play a role in this identification would be willing to dedicate after a follow-up consultation ? Methodology: a cross-sectional, declarative and descriptive survey has been carried out by sending the link of a questionnaire to General Practitioners from the Pyrénés-Atlantiques who agreed to provide us with their contact details. A univariate descriptive analysis of the quantitative variables was initially performed with Excel software, followed by a bivariate and multivariate analysis of the data using R software. Results: the majority of General Practitioners who believed they had a role in identifying written language difficulties (65.26%) were willing to spend 5 to 10 minutes to this identification during a follow-up consultation with a child. All other things being equal, there was a statistically significatn correlation between the zones being under-staffed with speech therapists (p = 0.03) and the time General Practitioners would dedicate to the scouting. Conclusion: we conclude that a reasonable time for General Practitioners to spend on an evaluation of learning difficulties during a follow-up consultation of a child is within the time interval of 5 to 10 minutes. The number of speech pathologists within the area of the Practice influenced the time that could be spent on such evaluation. We suggest that the provision of a calibrated tracking tool, user-friendly, and open access, would facilitate this tracking by general practitioners.
