Appréciation par les patients du coût de la consultation de médecine générale et des principaux actes associés en fonction de leur mode de prise en charge financière sur la région de basse terre en mars et avril 2019

Abstract : Introduction: The general population is not aware of care costs. Costs which more patients can be dispensed in the Caribbean. Objective: Evaluate patients ' knowledge of costs of primary care's consultation and the associated procedures and explore the relationship between upfront cost and awareness of carecosts. Methods: An observationnal epidemiological study was performed on patients attending general practices in the Southern Basse-Terre area, in Guadeloupe from March 1st to April 30th , 2019. Data were collected using a questionnaire exploring patients' knowledge of the health cost. The population was divided into three categories: advanced all expenses, partially advanced them, totally exempt. The results were presented with a descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis examinating factors associated with good assessment/ underestimate/ overestimate. Results: Out of 383 patients, 71.4% knew the cost of a general medical consultation. Between 2.9% and 27.7% knew the main associated procedures' costs. The exemption of cost advance doesn't lead to cost underestimation. These costs remain a cause of renunciation of care for 6% of the population surveyed. Conclusion : There is a poor assessment of general medical consultation and the main associated procedures' costs. There is no link between exemption of cash advance and costs underestimation.
