Baudelaire entre le classicisme et la modernité, des Fleurs du Mal au Spleen de Paris

Abstract : Charles Baudelaire, a poet living in the 19th century, in order to define this great poet more fully, apart from the title 'modern poet', Antoine Compagnon also defines him as a classical poet. How can we prove this by looking at Fleurs du Mal and Spleen de Paris? What are the links between the two works and between the two aspects of Baudelaire? These are the issues of our research. In order to answer these questions, as far as the classical aspect is concerned, we focus on the similarities of poetic forms, contents and ways of presentation in Baudelaire and the classical poets. Regarding modernity, according to its definition, with reference to the time and city of Baudelaire's life, we study the temporality, the dandy and the politics shown by Baudelaire. In accordance with the two parts, we can see that Baudelaire is both classical and modern, that Fleurs du Mal and Spleen de Paris are both singular and overlapping. At the same time, we cannot separate the modern from the classical in Baudelaire.
