Complications des traitements par orthèse d'avancée mandibulaire en cas d'apnée du sommeil : analyse et critique des études dans la littérature

Abstract : Sleep apnea is a major global public health problem. Indeed, it is a largely underdiagnosed pathology despite a very high frequency in the population, as well as many associated comorbidities and proven complications. Several treatments exist to treat sleep apnea, including the use of an oral appliance. This consists of moving the mandible forward to free the airways, it is made to measure from dental impressions made on the patient. This easy-to-use treatment, on the other hand, presents a significant number of complications, ranging from the mildest such as gum bleeding to the more severe such as tooth movement. Depending on the type of orthosis, the type of material or the target population, complications vary between studies. The goal of this work is to examine the comorbidities associated with this syndrome, then the complications due to wearing the orthosis and finally to analyze the study protocols to find an optimal mandibular advancement orthosis treatment with adjustments resulting in the fewest possible complications.
