Évaluation de la prise en charge de l’ostéoporose après fracture de l'extrémite supérieure du fémur chez les patient.e.s hospitalisé.e.s au centre hospitalier de Pau

Abstract : Introduction: osteoporosis causes fractures, especially fractures of the upper extremity of the femur, which are complicated by excess morbidity and mortality. Patients with hip fractures should be assessed and treated. However, there is an international lack of the management of osteoporosis. The aim of this study is to assess the prescription of anti-osteoporotic treatment in patients over 50 years old hospitalized in the Hospital Center of Pau after femoral bone fracture. Methodology: it was a descriptive study, retrospective cohort and monocentric. We identified all low-energy fractures of the upper extremity of the femur from 20/12/2018 to 17/06/2019 hospitalized in orthopedic service in Pau. We called each family doctors to submit them to a questionnaire about patients. Results: 97 hip fractures were enumerated, 73 patients were included. There were 50 (68%) women and 23 (32%) men with an average age of 80 years. One year after their fracture, 6,85% had anti-osteoporotic treatment, 5,48% had a bone densitometry, 48% had vitamin D and / or calcium supplementation and 8,22% had a new fragility fracture. Conclusion: the management of osteoporosis after fracture of the upper extremity of the femur is still insufficient in Pau. Fracture liaison services are currently the best ways to fight osteoporosis. Programs of Therapeutic Patient Education seem also promising. It would be interesting to make a similar epidemiological study after establishment of such structures in the Pau region.
