La pratique de la prescription orthophonique par les chirurgiens-dentistes dans le cadre des dysfonctions oro-myo-faciales et des parafonctions chez l’enfant de moins de 18 ans

Abstract : The dentist, as a general practitioner, has prerogatives for early intervention, such as the screening of orofacial myofunctional disorders and parafunctions. Restoring these functions is a public health matter due to its many health implications. The dental surgeon is therefore in a position to refer his young patients to the speech therapist (who is ) competent in this rehabilitation. The aim of this paper is to review the practice of dental surgeons in prescribing speech and language therapy and to study the influence of knowledge of both their own prerogative on this practice and the one of the speech and language therapy in relation to orofacial myofunctional disorders. For this purpose, 102 dentists answered a questionnaire. The processing of the answers was done in the form of a descriptive analysis and then an inferential statistical treatment. It has been shown that the use of speech therapy prescriptions by dentists, with barely 55.9% declaring themselves to be prescribers, is still not widespread enough, despite the recommendations of the ANAES Factors likely to influence this practice were identified: the degree of knowledge of the dental surgeon of his screening mission and his right to prescribe. Knowledge of speech language therapists' scope of practice does not seem to be involved in the use of prescriptions. Professional collaboration between speech and language therapists and dentists around young patients with orofacial myofunctional disorders could be improved through formal and informal interfaces.
