Intérêt d’un carnet alimentaire dans l’évaluation orthophonique des troubles de l’oralité et l’instauration du partenariat parental

Abstract : Context: feeding disorders in children are frequent. They require multidisciplinary care in partnership with the families. They can be evaluated by speech therapists who use different tools. A food diary was created by Christine Mafayou in the context of her clinical practice. We found that it was a tool that was not often cited in the literature and in practice. Objective: we wondered about its interest in the evaluation of feeding disorders and the establishment of a parental partnership. Method: after some modifications, the diary was sent to speech therapists and parents of patients aged 2 to 10 years. Parents were asked to complete it for 10 to 15 days before the speech therapy assessment to provide information about meals. We then interviewed both groups of participants via questionnaires to analyze its relevance. Results it appears that the diary is easy to use and allows the collection of precise and objective data on the child's diet. It is an interesting tool for the evaluation of feeding disorders, even if it does not help to make a speech therapy diagnosis. It is also described as an interesting tool for establishing a parental partnership. It seems to help parents to better observe their child's eating behavior. On the other hand, it does not promote either a better understanding of the disorders or changes in the parents' attitude towards meals. Prospects: the diary could also be used during treatment. It would make it possible to highlight the evolution of the child's dietary repertoire and behaviour, as well as the impact of the speech therapy intervention and the parental partnership. As such, modifications are presented to further enrich the relevance of this tool.
