Effet du genre sur la pratique orthophonique

Abstract : The concept of gender is omnipresent in every society. This concept can influence all individuals, without them realizing it. These are the implicit biases. They are not without consequences, especially for the minorities to which women belong. In many societies, the male gender and the attributes attached to it are valued over the female gender. In our study, we investigated whether speech therapy practice could vary according to the gender of the patient for the same disorder. We examined whether the means of remediation differed for a boy compared to the means of remediation proposed to a girl. Our results showed a homogeneity of the treatments. No gender distinction was found. The speech therapists seemed to treat their patients in a similar way, regardless of their gender. Gender-neutral materials even seemed to be preferred over materials that were considered gendered. These results could be supplemented by a more empirical study with conditions closer to reality.
