Évolution du rôle social de l'infirmier : un processus émancipateur du programme de formation de 1992 au référentiel de formation de 2009

Abstract : Since the origins of the nursing at the end of the 19th century, caregivers have been placed in a relationship of subordination to the doctor. A century later, these professionals claimed a need for recognition of their specificity and put forward their qualification rather than the vocational aspect attached to their function. The recognition in legal documents of their own role set them on the road to emancipation and this has continued ever since. Because nursing education undoubtedly leads to a kind of professional profile, we wanted to study how the last two training programmes have accompanied the evolution of the profession, particularly in its relationship with the doctor. From the analysis of curricula based on the academic works of Bernstein and Young, and the concerns and expectations of authors involved in nursing education in a professional journal, we have highlighted the officialization of nursing sciences as a specific and dominant field of knowledge, the autonomy allowed by competence and the preparation for a different social role with the 2009 referential. This allowed us to discuss the remaining challenges for nurses in terms of culture of preventive care, science culture and academic process, as well as the development of interdisciplinarity as a way to emancipation.
