Coliques du nourrisson, optimisation d’une fiche conseil : étude qualitative auprès de parents en Gironde

Abstract : Introduction: in 2018, doctor A. Mouangvong developed an advice-booklet about infantile colic, for parents. As a follow-up to her work in developing a written information document, we decided to evaluate this tool with the target population. Objective: to collect the feelings and opinions of parents about an advice-booklet on infantile colic in order to optimize it. Material and method: this is a qualitative research conducted through individuals semi-structured interviews with parents of infants aged 0-3 months of life. Parents received the advice-booklet during their infant’s first month of life. The collection of data took place from December 2020 to March 2021. It stopped when when we reached data saturation. A thematic analysis of the verbatims was performed. Results: 24 mothers or couples were interviewed. They found the booklet to be clear, understandable and containing the essential information about infantile colic. However it lacked illustrations, particularly to explain massage and positioning techniques. Some parents suggested adding videos to visualize these advices. Regarding the booklet, some parents suggested to use a different media such as an online access or an integration of the leaflet in the health booklet. All parents were pleased to receive this tool, which provided them with help, knowledge, and support, allowing them to take an active role in the management of colic. Most parents felt powerless and helpless facing their child crying. They regretted the lack of information from health professionals and insisted on their need for information and support regarding colic and parenting. Conclusion: the advice-booklet has been improved based on parents input and is a quality adjunct tool in primary care. As part of the development of a written information document, it would be necessary to assess the effectiveness of the preventive action represented by this advice-booklet.
