Exploration de l’e-GeBAS en tant que nouvel outil d’évaluation de la sévérité de l’aphasie

Abstract : More than 12,000 new cases of aphasia are diagnosed each year in France. Therefore, an adapted method is required to evaluate its severity. Only two severity scales (in French-speaking countries) exist nowadays : the ART and the ASRS. However, they do have some limitations which affect their sensitivity and accuracy. The e-GeBAS, developed in Switzerland, evaluates aphasic disorders and their severity using a scale from 0 to 100. The e-GeBAS is studied in this thesis to measure its ability to improve the evaluation of the aphasia severity. In order to do so, the ART, the ASRS and the e-GeBAS have been administrated to a cohort of 28 aphasic patients, from the acute stage to the chronic one at the Libourne and Bordeaux Pellegrin hospitals. Statistical analyses were performed to compare the results of each of them. These results highlighted the ability of the e-GeBAS to evaluate the aphasia severity with a greater accuracy than the two other scales. It presents the benefits of differentiating language profiles, detecting changes in severity and guiding the rest of the interventions. Furthermore, in reference to the gold standard, the ASRS, weighting results are also suggested depending on each subtest weight in the total severity score to reinforce its accuracy. But carrying out this work on a larger population seems to be necessary to validate the e-GeBAS as a severity scale for aphasia.
