Grandir avec une différence : l’impact de la maladie sur l’image du corps

Abstract : This essay focuses on the perception that an individual may have of his or her body when he or she affected by rare genetic diseases. In order to illustrate my reflection, I present Sam, an eight-year-old boy suffering from two rare genetic syndromes affecting limbs by malformations and his face by paralysis. Based on his story and his behaviour during the sessions, and helped by the conversations I had with his parents, I gradually became interested in the topic of psycho-corporal integration. Therefore, my questions about Sam led the future psychomotor therapist that I am to think the individual as a whole. Weeks after weeks, I tried to understand his functioning from his childhood, and the impact that these syndromes have on his daily life on its senses, while wondering about its development in adolescence.
