Impacts et gestion des risques bucco-dentaires du diabète de type 1 : évaluation des connaissances des adolescents et leurs parents

Abstract : Diabetes is a chronic disease which is defined by too much glucose in the blood called hyperglycemia. There are 2 types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes, known as insulin-dependent and called juvenile diabetes, and type 2 diabetes, called non-insulin-dependent and considered as adult diabetes. In France, in 2016, there were more than 3.3 million people treated pharmacologically for any type of diabetes, which corresponds to 5% of the population. Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children. It represents around 10% of cases of diabetes in France and around the world. Half of the cases occur before the age of 20. Currently in France, the incidence of type 1 diabetes is around 15 cases per 100,000 children under 15 years old. Thus, between 2013 and 2015, 6,424 children were identified as newly suffering from type 1 diabetes. The prevalence among young people with type 1 diabetes is therefore high, highlighting the need to put in place measures of prevention. However, the existing information tools are not suitable for children and adolescents. In order to set up an adapted information tool that can be integrated into their therapeutic education course, the objective of this thesis was to assess the knowledge of adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their parents on the impact and management of oral risks associated with this disease. Then, an educational information sheet, adapted to this audience, was therefore produced and distributed to study participants following completion of the questionnaire.
