Fahrenheit 451 : Transposition in our Modern Society

Abstract : Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 presents a dystopian future in which the American society has forsaken literature for screens, giving up humanity, individuality, preaching anti-intellectualism and mindless entertainment. To what extent is Bradbury’s future prophetic similar to our own modernity in the 21st century? We will study the contexts surrounding the novel and its creation, analyze the ideas presented in the novel and its main message, before turning to the transposition of those ideas to see how well they fare in our modern context, by exploring which aspects of the novel are prophetic and relevant almost 70 years after its publication in 1953.
