L’approche Silent Way dans les ateliers sociolinguistiques (ASL) : le processus de prise de conscience dans l’apprentissage du français

Abstract : The Socio-Linguistic Workshops welcome a varied public of allophone adults. Some of them do not master reading and writing. The aim is for them to learn a new language but also to learn to read and write in this language: French. Gattegno's language learning approach, the Silent Way, is being tested at the Maison des Habitants Anatole France in Grenoble with this public. This approach uses a set of multimodal tools and techniques to enable the learner to understand the functional aspects of French first. The observation of Silent Way sessions and the analysis of video excerpts examine the relevance of this approach for this audience. Awareness of the learner was observed. They show the development of their phonological awareness, their graphical and syntactic understanding. The awareness process is coconstructed by the learner's self-feedback and the trainer's continuous feedback, integrating the Silent Way pedagogical tools.
