Prévention de la carie précoce de l'enfant en âge préscolaire

Abstract : Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is widespread among pre-school children (0-3 years). It is a real global public health problem, and leads to medical, social, aesthetic and financial complications for the child, his/her entourage and the State. However, it is preventable, through rigorous primary prevention, thanks to the implementation of simple oral hygiene practices, combined with a balanced diet, a reasoned use of fluoride, and frequent visits to the dental surgeon. The aim of this thesis is to understand why this primary prevention, although fairly simple to set up, does not really have any observable effectiveness in pre-school children. This work has enabled us to identify a major problem, which is the lack of knowledge of parents but also of other health professionals on this subject. Thus, by increasing information about carious disease, with early education, implemented from the stage of pregnancy and relayed by the entire medical profession, in large cities as well as in more rural municipalities, it would be reasonable to hope for a decrease in the prevalence of ECC.
