Le mouvement est-il une variable du système sémantique : modèle de l’aphasie primaire progressive sémantique

Abstract : The impairment of the semantic system is the main component of the disorders observed in the semantic variant of Primary Progressive Semantic Aphasia (svPPA). The organization of this system is the subject of questions in terms of semantic categories (living/non living). However, the link between these categories and movement has hardly been studied. The aim of this study is to participate in the development of a visual lexical decision task and its application to a control population as well as an initial case study of a patient with svPPA.
A pilot study with 40 young healthy control subjects has provided a selection of 60 items, 4 lists of 15 words depending on 2 conditions (living/non living, movement/non movement). Lists are matched in frequencies, number of letters and syllables and reaction time. Then 60 pseudowords were created. The visual lexical decision task thus created has been proposed to 16 control subjects and one semantic primary progressive aphasia patient.
In healthy subjects, there is no effect of the studied variables neither on the scores, nor on the reaction times. The very preliminary results in patients with svPPA, however, show a discrete effect of these two variables that needs to be explored.
The cohort of control subjects will have to be expanded to further validate the task, which should also be applied to a significant number of patients with svPPA in order to verify and study the influence of the movement variable in the semantic word processing.
