Le métatarsus varus : indicateurs de choix de la contention

Abstract : Introduction: a metatarsus varus is a congenital malposition of an infant’s foot. Numerous studies in the literature show that the restraints used are extremely variable. Indeed, the physiotherapist has a large arsenal of equipment. However, according to the French National Authority for Health, the decision-making criteria for the choice of restraint are poorly develop.
Objective: this qualitative study aims to identify the indicators that allow the physiotherapist to choose the type of equipment of a patient with metatarsus varus.
Method: ten expert physiotherapists were selected to participate, individually, in semi-directives interviews from 15 to 30 minutes.
Results: the categorical analysis made it possible to classify the various statements of the interviewees into categories defined a priori and based on the literature.
Discussion: most interviewed physiotherapists agreed that they take into account therapeutic education and observance of parents, as well as the time of care. They are also based on the self-diagnosis of metatarsus varus, its differential diagnosis and the cost of equipment.
