Remédiation phonologique et morphosyntaxique par la musique : enfants avec Trouble Développemental du Langage (TDL)

Abstract : Objective: This study proposes a music-based remediation based on rhythm and pitch to improve the linguistic skills of children between 7 and 12 years of age with DLD, and compares the specific effect of the two workshops (rhythm vs. pitch).
Method: The experiment lead in cross-over, for two groups of six patients, consisted in following a program of 12 sessions of 45 minutes based on the rhythm and the pitch, in counterbalanced order.
Results: Progresses in phonological awareness and in morphosyntax are noticed, as well as a transfer towards the skills in reading words and in maintaining attention. Furthermore, the significant effects of the rhythm workshops on attentional skills confirm the extension of expected benefits onto non-linguistic attentional treatments.
Conclusion: These workshops could be transposed to speech therapy remediation, keeping the rhythm and pitch components for their complementary effects on language and attentional skills.
