Effets d’un programme d’APA de courte durée sur le développement de l’image corporelle chez des patients adultes en situation d'obésité

Abstract : For several years, obesity has been described as a complex and multifactorial disease; it is referred as a “global epidemic”. Obesity involves many physiological, psychological and social consequences that negatively affect the quality of life of obese people. This study provides a better understanding of the psychological issues related to obesity, in particular with those related to the body appreciation. For the treatment of this variable, one therapeutic tool is well known in the scientific literature for its benefits, the PA. Method: The study includes 12 participants with obesity (BMI > 30) and analyses the effects of a short-term APA program on their body appreciation. The main hypothesis postulates that APA improves body appreciation and the second hypothesis states that BMI and PA-related behavior is also improved by APA. Results: APA has a significant effect on the improvement of the subjects' body appreciation but for BMI and PA-related behaviours, the results were not significant. Discussion: The interpretation of the results is fragile due to the size of the sample and the power of the test.
