Quel est l’intérêt de l’acupuncture dans le traitement de la Broncho Pneumopathie Chronique Obstructive ( BPCO ) ?

Abstract : Introduction : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by airflow limitation and both systemic and airway inflammation. Faced with the resurgence of this pathology, new complementary therapies such as acupuncture are emerging. Objective : to evaluate the effect of acupuncture on patients suffering from this disease in order to improve the care offered. Method : The databases used were Pubmed and Pedro. The target population is a sample of patients diagnosed with GOLD stage 2 or higher. The effect of the intervention was assessed by the Borg scale and the 6-minute walk test. The internal validity of these studies was controlled by the Pedro scale. Results : This review includes 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), 3 studies in China and 1 in Ireland. There is a contingency of results with a positive effect of acupuncture on the Borg scale but not very conclusive on the walking test. Discussion/Conclusion : Overall we can conclude from these studies that there is no negative effect of acupuncture on these patients. Biases are present in the studies representing in particular the difficulty of carrying out this therapy in double blind. It would be interesting to study more deeply European populations less prone to this therapy derived from Chinese medicine.
