Intérêt de la reprogrammation neuro-musculaire dans la prévention des entorses de cheville chez les sportifs assujettis à des contraintes en suspension

Abstract : Introduction (background): Ankle sprains are a major public health problem and represent a daily cost of 1.2 million euros in France. This trauma is frequent in athletes who are the most likely to be subjected to suspension stress. In addition to limiting sports practice, ankle sprains can lead to chronic residual pain and instability as well as an increased risk of recurrence. Neuromuscular prevention strategy consists of pre-activating the ankle stabilizing muscles and reducing their reaction time. Purpose: The purpose of this review is to determine if a neuromuscular prevention strategy is relevant to the prevention of ankle sprains in athletes. Method: Various databases such as PubMed, PEDro and Google Scholar were investigated to select five randomized clinical trials (RCTs). Results and analysis: As the primary outcome was the occurrence of an ankle sprain during sports practice. The relative risk and its 95% confidence interval were calculated in order to estimate the effect size. Four studies out of the five seem to show the effectiveness of this therapy, nevertheless the interpretation of their confidence interval shows that these results are not statistically significant.
