La CoP-Maths : un dispositif collaboratif de formation au service de l’enseignement des mathématiques à l’école élémentaire

Abstract : At the moment, french teachers are not satisfied with the level of training and support they are offered. There is a real need for change in the existing system and the conclusions point that more collaborative structures within the system could be the answer. Several collaborative setups already exist in the french system such as « constellations », but are not widespread. Vertical models are still the most popular method for training. To respond to the demand for a more horizontal training, strong collaborative structures need to be initiated and developed. In our opinion, one of them that deserves to be considered is a widespread training method found in many large companies and corporations, that has been used since the 1990’s : it is known as communities of practice. It has been assessed by now that communities of practice contribute to developing its members’ professional competence through the collaborative relationship that is built among the group. It seems that they could be an answer to the issues that the french educational system faces at the moment. This research focuses on the following question : Can communities of practice function as collaborative structures for ongoing teacher training ?
