Évaluation agronomique de méthodes de lutte contre la chrysomèle des cucurbitacées, Aulacophora fauveli, sur Wallis

Abstract : The cucurbit beetle, Aulacophora fauveli, is the main insect pest of vegetable crops on Wallis and Futuna territory. Preferentially attacking cucurbit crops, this pest is the most problematic and the one causing the most damage. The efficacy of sustainable methods to control Aulacophora was tested in a cucurbit crop association. A field trial compared a physical control (shade net) with two plant extracts (neem leaf (Azadirachta indica) slurry and bush passion fruit leaf (Passiflora foetida) slurry) and an untreated control. With a very low pest pressure, no difference has been found between treatments on the number and damage of pumpkin beetle. However, the use of the treatments resulted in higher production than the untreated control. In addition, the use of a wood chip mulch and the use of the shade net provided favourable conditions for good plant development. Further experiments should be carried out on Wallis to determine in a conclusive way the means of effective control of the cucurbit beetle.
