Connaissance et intérêt porté aux directives anticipées et à la personne de confiance dans la population en bonne santé

Abstract : Few French people write their advance directives (AD) and designate their trusted person (TP). Healthy people are certainly even less aware of the existence of these measures. However, they might find themselves brutally unable to express their will regarding their health care. The objective of this work was to determine the level of knowledge and interest in these two measures among the healthy population. A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted, using a questionnaire among a sample group of patients selected in medical practices. Out of 208 participants, 29.8% estimated their knowledge of AD to be accurate, and 44.2% for CP. Very few had already written their AD (3.8%) or appointed a TP (15.4%). Although 85% expressed an interest in the topic, and that many are considering writing their AD (85%) and appointing a TP (92.3%), they tend to postpone their implementation. Indeed, only half of them think they would do it while being in good health condition. The systematic lack of information, the lack of help and support to carry out these steps, but also the fact that death remains a subject that is still too little addressed, or even taboo, are obstacles to the democratization of these measures. At this level, the general practitioner has a key role to play, especially since a majority of them would appreciate their personal physician providing them with information on the subject.
