Biodistribution plaquettaire : évaluation de deux méthodes de détection après radiomarquage à l'indium-111

Abstract : Platelet radiolabeling with indium-111 oxine is indicated in peripheric thrombocytopenia in order to compute platelet lifespan and to categorize sequestration pattern when a splenectomy is being considered. Two detection methods exist to locate platelet sequestration sites: scintillation counters and gamma cameras. The main objective of this monocentric study was to evaluate the two detection methods. Secondary objectives were to assess the inter-operator reproducibility of the counter measurements and to compare two methods of delimitation of volumes of interest (VOI) on gamma camera images. The duration of patient examination and his feelings according to the detection method were also studied. Between July 2020 and July 2021, 8 patients performed an examination both by a scintillation counter and by a wide-field CZT gamma camera model Veriton-CT® (Spectrum Dynamics Medical, Caesarea, Israel). 100% of the interpretations obtained by the counter and the camera match. Regarding the results by counter, we do not find any significant inter-operator difference. Regarding the detection by camera, there is a clear underestimation of the counts obtained with the organ contouring method compared to the VOI method in a homogeneous zone. The duration of patient examination by scintillation counter is significantly longer than the one with the camera. The evaluation of patient feelings did not show a significant difference, but the majority preferred the gamma camera method. This study, performed on a small sample size, has concluded a non-discrepancy of the two detection methods and that it saved time when using the gamma camera.
