Effets d’un programme d’éducation thérapeutique ambulatoire à destination des patients diabétiques de type deux sur les trois acteurs principaux que sont les patients, les intervenants et les adresseurs

Abstract : Context: the quadrennial evaluation of a educating program is a regulatory requirement of the regional health agency which allows teams to take stock of the expected results for the beneficiaries, for the team of interveners and the development of the educational offer in the territory. A multi-professional team working in the liberal sector wished to understand more in depth what effects their outpatient program intended for type two diabetic patients had had.
Objective: to analyze the effects of a therapeutic education program by comparing the views of the actors directly involved: patients, educational team and addressers.
Method: a qualitative descriptive study carried out through focus group interviews. The data were then analyzed according to the general inductive model by two researchers. The research protocol and presentation of results comply with COREQ criteria.
Results: 55 of the 62 actors in a program were heard between June and October 2020 and unanimously brought out six major effects: the development of a power to act, reciprocity of learning, changes in representations, the emergence of a common educational culture in the team, the consideration of the essential role of the caregiver and finally better control of the disease.
Conclusion: the reciprocity of learning and the awareness for all its actors of a power to act are the two major effects of the program, ultimately this leads to better management of the disease. This study illustrates the transformative force of those involved in the program thanks to the comparison of the work of professionals with the experiential knowledge of patients. The therapeutic patient education (TPE) approach, often perceived as a complement to care, turns out to be a different way of practicing, which gives meaning to care while limiting the exhaustion of professionals if the necessary means are invested.
