Les attentes et les besoins des adolescents sur l’abord de leur éducation affective et sexuelle par leur médecin traitant généraliste

Abstract : Background : In spite of a great number of prevention campaigns, the number of abortions and the number of sexually transmitted diseases remain stable if not increasing on Reunion Island. Method : Qualitative study thanks to semi-directed interviews of teenagers aged from 18 to 20 years old on Reunion Island. Results : Teenagers feel they aren't informed enough about relational and sexual education. They need information about physical changes during puberty, about contraception, about bullying, about sexual inclination, about the first sexual intercourse. Teenagers are ready to talk to their general practitioner if he first builds a climate of trust and sets the first step. Shyness, the fear to be judged and their parents' presence usually prevent teenagers to express themselves. Conclusion : The GP isn't usually considered to be a resourceful person in terms of sexuality. However teenagers feel ready to chat with him or her about sexual relationships. Some teenagers regret the lack of instructors in sexual education matters and have no family help. The main obstacle is the lack of communication between teenagers and caregivers.
