Évaluation de l''intérêt pédagogique d'un serious game en ORL pour les étudiants de deuxième cycle

Abstract : Context: serious games are games with an educational objective. The vertiginous syndrome is a frequent reason for consultation and poorly mastered by the medical profession, we have proposed a simulation about a consultation in a serious game focused on acute vertigo to medical students. Main objective: this is a prospective, single-center and comparative study with a control group carried out at the Faculty of Medicine of Bordeaux. The aim of this study is to prove the educational nature of the realization of a serious game on vertigo in ENT in addition to the classic learning with a population of externs in the fourth year of medical study during the school year 2020 to 2021. Materials and Methods: the student volunteers all followed the classic training and answered a knowledge test on vertigo in ENT scored out of 100 points (10 QRM). The students were randomized into a control group and a game group. The game group did the serious game on line featuring a patient suffering from vestibular neuritis. The same knowledge test was offered at four weeks to the control group and to the game group in order to compare the progress of each group. Results: by comparing the results between the control group (n = 75) and the game group (n = 59), we do not find any significant difference in the first questionnaire (before serious game). We highlighted a significant difference in the second questionnaire (after serious game) between the control group (46.9 points) and the game group (68.1 points). The control group did not make significant progress between the two questionnaires. Conclusion: the use of a serious game in addition to classical education seems to have a positive impact on the learning of students at 1 month. Further studies are desirable to assess this efficacy from a distance.
