La représentation de l’accouchement chez les primipares

Abstract : Background: Giving birth for the first time is a very specific physical and psychological moment. Every future first time mother is asking herself questions about this particular event of life. Objectives: Comparing childbirth’s women representation with their experience of this moment. Methods: A descriptive and interpretative qualitative study was conducted. Ten first time mothers were interviewed within three months after their delivery. Findings and discussion: Every interviewed woman had her own idea about the proceeding of their future childbirth. But the birth and parenthood preparation classes bring more technical and personalized elements. Conclusion: Each delivery is unique and unpredictable, that’s why it’s impossible to imagine precisely how it will happens. However, to improve this life experience, a great tool exists: birth and parenthood preparation classes. The aim of these eight sessions is to identify the main women’s and couple’s vulnerability risk factors to get closer of their needs and initials knowing to reduce the differences between their representations and reality.
