Prise en charge des femmes migrantes logées en hôtel social, par les sages-femmes, dans les maternités d’Ile-de-France

Abstract : Pregnant migrant women, in a very precarious situation and accommodated in social hotels, and their care, is a public health issue. We were aiming to identify how midwives can establish a trusting relationship, essential for the optimal care of pregnant migrant women.
This is a qualitative, multicenter, and prospective study, based on mainly structured individual interviews. It was carried out in Paris, including pregnant migrant women housed in social hotels and supported by SOLIPAM, as well as midwives from Parisian maternities, taking care of women in very precarious situations.
Collecting complete data from patients in a very precarious situation is difficult to carry out in the maternity ward due to a short time in consultation. Midwives also have approximate knowledge of the social and administrative care of their migrant patients. The patients are nevertheless satisfied with the care provided, especially the human and relational skills of the professionals; a single place of follow-up is therefore important for them, as frequent changes of accommodation significantly complicate their daily lives.
Midwives can establish a climate of trust with pregnant migrant women by personalizing their care. This would require a follow-up with the same midwife, as well as sufficient time in consultation to dig social issues with the patients. Improvement of services and a specific training of midwives about precarity would also seem relevant.
