Enfants exposés aux violences conjugales : étude qualitative auprès des médecins du Pays Basque

Abstract : Introduction: domestic violence has numerous repercussions on children who are exposed to it. General practitioners play a key role in identifying and treating victims of domestic violence, both parents and children. Objective: to understand the current practices, the challenges and the expectations of general practitioners in the Basque Country in identifying and caring for children exposed to domestic violence. Method: qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with general practitioners in the Basque Country. Data analysis was carried out using N Vivo software and the grounded theory method. Results: general practitioners only play a minor role in the identification and support of victims of domestic violence. The care of children exposed to domestic violence is complex as it must take into account the mother-child relationship, the different characteristics of domestic violence and the need to protect these children. Conclusion: general practitioners require increased awareness and collaboration in order to provide children exposed to domestic violence with appropriate and individualized care.
