Le diabète de type 1 et le sportif de haut niveau

Abstract : Medical research on type 1 diabetes has helped to understand the mechanism of the disease and to highlight the role of insulin in blood sugar regulation. The evolution of technologies and new digital tools have enabled better glycemic monitoring and control allowing diabetic athletes to adapt their insulin doses during and after their physical efforts. It is important for the type 1 diabetic athlete and the healthy athlete to have an adequate diet even if the nutritional intake will include some variations according to the type of physical activity practiced. There are no specific recommendations for diabetic athletes, but there are insulin adjustments reported by patients and doctors in the literature. Each practitioner experiences himself according to his type of physical activity, his diet, and his feelings. The pharmacist provides assistance to the diabetic athlete by advising them on the diet and on the use of control devices or by directing them to specialized services. The support of specialists and the own experience of the person allow to achieve the best performance.
