Les infiltrations à La Réunion : étude des pratiques professionnelles des médecins généralistes libéraux

Abstract : Introduction: Consultations related to osteoarticular diseases and musculoskeletal disorders are frequent in general practice. They represent about 9% of diagnoses and are the third most common reason for consultation after cardiovascular and pneumological diseases. There is a variable prevalence of infiltrations in general practice in metropolitan France. It varies from 35% to 64% according to studies carried out in different regions in recent years. No study on joint infiltration has been carried out in Reunion Island. The main objective of this study is to describe the practice of joint infiltration in general practice in Reunion Island. Method: This is a cross-sectional epidemiological survey, based on a digital questionnaire. The target population of this study includes all general practitioners practicing in the territory of the Overseas Department of Reunion. The descriptive statistical analysis of this study was carried out on the basis of STROBE recommendations. Results: One hundred and sixty-five physicians responded to this questionnaire, i.e., approximately 20% of the private general practitioners in Reunion. The population that responded to the questionnaire was heterogeneous. The majority of the physicians who responded work in group practices and in areas of high medical density. The prevalence of general practitioners who perform infiltrations in Reunion Island is 15.8%. The majority of physicians who perform infiltrations are significantly male. Conclusion: The prevalence of infiltration in general practice on Reunion Island is low compared to some metropolitan areas. The low local prevalence of infiltration informs us of the need to adapt needs according to demand. The geographical distance and the organization of care is probably responsible for this specific distribution.
