Repérage de l’usage du cannabis chez les adolescents en médecine générale : étude qualitative auprès de 17 médecins généralistes

Abstract : French teenagers are among the biggest consumers of cannabis. Repeated cannabis use leads to physical and psychological consequences at long term. The general practitioner is the health professional most consulted. Few general practitioners ask adolescent about cannabis consumptions.This study aimed to explore, with general practitioners in Savoie Haute-Savoie Isere, how to facilitate early diagnosis of cannabis use in adolescent population. This qualitative study was conducted by two investigators that carried out 17 semi structures interviews of general practitioner. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, anonymized and then analyzed with respect for triangulation. The research work was carried out using a thematic analysis method. General practitioner has the choice to approach the subject of cannabis directly at an opportune moment such as college entry age, or indirectly if he spots warning signs. The general practitioner must adapt his mode of communication to the adolescent and succeed in establishing a climate of trust. The general practitioner must demonstrate communication skills, ask open questions. A reminder on the right to professional secrecy for minors should be done to parents adolescents and doctors. Public health campaigns should raise awareness of the importance of prevention consultation.
