Résultats radio-cliniques à long terme des résections de première rangée du carpe avec resurfaçage du pôle proximal du capitatum par un implant en pyrocarbone

Abstract : We performed a retrospective multicentric study to evaluate functional results after first row carpectomy with proximal capitate resurfacing using a pyrocarbon implant. We included patients operated in five French surgical centres between January 2005 and December 2018. Functional evaluation was performed by an independent observer during a standardized consultation. In all there were 30 patients, with a mean follow-up of seven years. We saw a mean range of motion in flexion extension of 65°, a radio ulnar tilt of 44°, a mean quick dash score of 17, as well as good strength and improvement in pain. Our results are similar to the results reported in the literature for isolated first row carpectomy, which is indicated for less advanced wrist arthritis. The results reported in the literature for midcarpal arthrodesis seem to be comparable to our results in terms of effect on pain and strength, but slightly worse in terms of wrist mobility.
