Perceptions de la sexualité chez les couples au cours de la première année du post-partum

Abstract : Background: the majority of patients find it difficult to bring up the topic of sexuality, especially with healthcare professionals, although some questions remain, in particular during a pivotal period in their life: the postpartum period. This can lead to unanswered questions. The main objective of our work was to explore the experiences of couples regarding their postpartum sexuality, as well as the factors that may influence it. We wanted to obtain the experiences of both parents jointly to explore this phenomenon of sexuality, a phenomenon that occurs in pairs. Method: qualitative study by interviews of couples, semi-structured with in-depth questioning with parents who have experienced sexuality during the postpartum year. After saturation of the data, a phenomenological analysis of the transcribed verbatim brought out categories. Results: fifteen couples interviews were carried out from April 11th 2020 to May 17th 2020. Many factors influence postpartum sexuality and are intertwined with each other such as breastfeeding, asthenia, parity but also psychological well-being and understanding within the couple. But it emerges from it a major importance of the communication within the couple in particular concerning the encountered difficulties. It is also reported that there is a lack of information provided to couples by health professionals, although the majority of couples would find use in support. Conclusion: thus by discovering the role of several factors influencing the perception of the couple's sexuality during the postpartum period, and by highlighting a major lack of prevention concerning this part of couples’ life, we were able to reveal both the importance of developing the training of health professionals and the need for their involvement during the postpartum period.
