Allaitement maternel et reprise du travail : enquête déclarative sur les aménagements disponibles dans les services hospitaliers

Abstract : Introduction: As regards health, breastfeeding is a major public issue. Being back to work has a negative impact on the establishment and duratiom of breastfeeding. Methods: The main goal was to establish a picture of the structures that have a proper dedicated local to working mothers/women who want to collect their milk. The study is based on a questionnaire that was sent by email to the the people in charge of the different departments in Clermont's university hospital. The questionnaire was also sent to the supervisors of perinatal departments within the net: " Réseau de Santé en Périnatalité d'Auvergne (RSPA)." Results: It appears that on the 57 supervisors answering to the inquiry none of them have a proper dedicated room to working breastfeeding mothers. Among the solutions, 22,4 % of them have a non dedicated room in which women choose to go to collect their milk. Another 45,6 % the departments give access to an alternative room. The last 40,5% have no room at all to propose to working breastfeeding women. Almost one out of two department didn't know whether the hospital have a resource person as regards breastfeeding (lactation consultant, qualified professionals...). Conclusion: There are measures to allow breastfeeding women to collect their milk when going back to work in those hospital departments. Although it is required by the law, it appears that the crew has neither enough time during their breaks, nor access to a proper dedicated room. A written policy could improve access to that right. This inquiry can be declined into an analysis of professional habits.
