Usages et représentations des écrans chez les jeunes et impact du Covid-19. Étude quantitative et qualitative auprès de jeunes franciliens de 13 à 25 ans

Abstract : The use of screens was exacerbated during the health crisis. This observation leads to questions about the use and representation of screens among young people in Ile-de-France aged 13 to 25. The main objective of the study conducted between March and August 2021, was to identify the perceptions and uses of screens among young people in the Ile-de-France region and their evolution since the Covid-19 pandemic in order to create an intervention adapted to their needs. To respond to this, quantitative and qualitative studies were carried out. The quantitative study was carried out through a form questioning the practices of young people concerning the use of screens, while the quantitative surveys enabled young people to express their representations and perceptions on the subject of digital technology. The study revealed an overall positive perception of screens and a very specific use corresponding to each type of screen. The dangers and risks are known by young people. The term "screens" encompasses a number of notions ranging from the type of screen, the associated activity or even the psychosocial skills and psychological aspects involved, such as the relationship with oneself, others or the screens. In order to tackle this issue in public health and more specifically in health promotion, it is necessary to involve young people in the creation of projects, whether by questioning their representations of screens and their needs, by associating them in the creation of educational tools or by letting them be actors in public health interventions in a community approach. Professionals in the sector should focus on the positive benefits of screens before encouraging reflection on the potential dangers and addressing prevention methods.
