Les cabinets de curiosités : une histoire des êtres et des choses (Lyon, XVIIe-XVIIIe siècles)

Abstract : This dissertation tries to explore cabinets of curiosities through the prism of an experience that the man of the second modernity can aspire to undertake. It’s not only a study of practices relating to gathering and preservation of all matter affecting the senses in a place reserved for this purpose, but also the specific frameworks in which they are inserted. The view is voluntarily carried over a long period, beyond the scale of human life, in order to think about a phenomenon over several generations in a city conducive to its manifestations.
