Thérapie interpersonnelle et dépression de l’adolescent

Abstract : Adolescent depression is related to protean representations, symptoms, theories and therapeutic choices. This heterogeneousness provokes a difficulty in the evaluation of its prevalence (8%) and the making of diagnosis. Its treatment is of the utmost importance on a public health viewpoint regarding the potential short or long term impacts. This period of life is characterized by reactivated conflicts such as separation/individuation, autonomy/dependance which unbalance the adolescent’s psychological organisation and family relations and dynamic. The attachment which is linked with early interactions between child and adult and which organizes our personalities then becomes more strained and affected by external influences. From this transition can emerge depression symptoms possibly linked with insecure or weakened ties. As a brief and structured treatment for depressive disorder, individual interpersonal psychotherapy took place during the seventees in the United States. Its theorical framework is based on the attachment concept (Bowlby) and the psychosocial viewpoint. This therapy is specifically orientated towards interpersonnal disorders which are often linked with emotional problems. The first interpersonal therapy undertaken were dedicated to adults and had to be adapted from both theoritical and practical plans. Specific adjustments must be conceived regarding this particular period of life. The therapeutic stake is about the way to restore the capability to surround with secure ties, while improving emotional regulation and perception of oneself and others.
