Enquête de pratiques en électrostimulation après prothèse totale de genou

Abstract : Total knee replacement is a common surgery which is usually offered after advanced osteoarthritis. Electrostimulation is a complementary tool in rehabilitation to improve voluntary activation, muscle strength and functional recovery postoperatively. However, it seems that opinions differ about this tool. Methods : based on the literature, a questionnaire was sent to physiotherapists in France thanks to social networks, solicitation of the regional unions of physiotherapists in private practise and rehabilitation centers in France. Results : results showed a lack of knowledge about electrostimulation. Many physiotherapists said they did not use electrostimulation for patients after total knee replacement because they did not see any additional benefits. Discussion : Data suggest that is necessary to develop physiotherapists knowledge of this tool. Training physiotherapists about electrostimulation can help them understand the interests to use it with the optimal parameters after total knee replacement.
