Hémopathies malignes et exposition résidentielle au rayonnement ultraviolet en population générale adulte : étude HEMO-UV

Abstract : Results of studies concerning the relationship between hematological malignancies (HM) and ultraviolet radiations (UVR) are heterogenous, fluctuating from positive association to negative depending on the HM subtype. Today knowledge on this relationship is still limited. In metropolitan France, there are few studies analyzing the association between HM and UVR et none which have an ecological design. HEMO-UV is an ecologic study. Its objective is investigating the link between HM incidence et UVR residential exposure. Data from 14 cancer registries of FRANCIM network, encompassing 20 metropolitan departments (a French administrative division) and Lille urban areas and HM cases of 15 years old adults from 2006 to 2017, were analyzed. This study is the first of its kind to study the whole “cancer registry area” of metropolitan France. After analysis with BYM spatial models and taking into account potential confounding factors, we found a significative reverse association suggesting a protecting effect of UVR from incidence of diffuse large B cell lymphoma. Those results may be consolidated with analyses including exposure in a quantitative way to explore a possible dose-effect relationship, a larger north to south study area to have a bigger exposure gradient and a case-control study to better grasp individual factors (UVR exposure and confounding ones).
