Étude qualitative des causes d’arrêt extrinsèques au projet SPICES du point de vue des non-participants

Abstract : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) was the leading cause of death in the world in 2016. The SPICES project implements a non-drug CVD prevention program in the Pays Centre Ouest Bretagne (COB), an area particularly affected by CVD. Residents at moderate cardiovascular risk, according to the non-laboratory Interheart score, were able to participate in support groups by accompanying citizens who were trained in promoting cardiovascular prevention. The objective of this work was to define the causes of cessation extrinsic to the SPICES project as reported by nonparticipants. Material and method : a qualitative study was conducted by means of individual semi- structured interviews carried out by two researchers, until theoretical data saturation was reached. The sampling was based on the following criteria: age, gender, place of residence, socio-professional category, and participation in the study. A thematic analysis was performed with double-blind coding. Results : ten semi-structured interviews were analyzed. Theoretical data saturation was achieved by the ninth interview. Several causes of discontinuation external to the study were found : poor perception of ne's cardiovascular health, specific expectations, personal and professional life, comorbidities, lack of motivation, COVID-19. Conclusion : taking into account the participant's level of health literacy, stage of behavior change, self-efficacy, and environment is essential. Triangulation of data was a strength. Recruitment of nonparticipants, for data collection, was a limitation. A mirror study described internal causes. Other qualitative studies were conducted, including the opinions of accompanying citizens on the barriers to group facilitation. This work would increase participation in the study and the effectiveness of the advice provided in the long term.
